Two points from the plan stand out for me here: 1. “Attract and retain artists and creative professionals.” 2. “Assemble a culture job corps focusing the skills of cultural sector providers toward citywide issues.” Chicago has one of the nation’s top art schools, creating plenty of artists and creative professionals - and a large portion of those graduates can’t find jobs. We need to create opportunities for art careers (not just unpaid internships) and work to apply art degrees beyond the cultural sector. Fingers crossed that the cultural plan will be the necessary push to expand this area of the job market.
